Mahir Polat was sent back to prison.
Two weeks before his arrest, Polat underwent angiography and has six stents placed in his heart vessels.
Mahir Polat, the Deputy Secretary General of Istanbul Metropolitan Municipality (IMM), who has numerous health issues and for whom calls for his release have been made, was sent back to prison after his treatment process at the hospital. Polat was arrested on March 23 as part of the 'urban consensus' investigation targeting IMM. Polat, who has been suffering from severe hypertension since the age of 21, has been hospitalized twice from prison, and during his last hospital transfer, he underwent angiography. After the angiography, Polat was sent back to Silivri Prison. He had six stents placed in his heart vessels two weeks before his arrest. His lawyer, Erkam Erdem, stated regarding Mahir Polat's condition, "Hypertension continues, this hypertension continues to harm his brain, kidneys, and especially his heart, and the risk of heart attack and brain hemorrhage is permanent." Following the reactions, it was reported that Polat would be transferred to the Forensic Medicine Institute on April 4. On the same day, Polat was taken to the hospital for the transfer report. Justice Minister Yılmaz Tunç also stated: "The detained individual mentioned has been transferred to the hospital in the Marmara Prison Campus as of today for the assessment of his health condition, and following the examinations conducted here, it has been decided to transfer him to the Forensic Medicine Institute as per the Health Board Decision taken. Throughout these processes, all controls and treatments of the detainee are being carried out completely in accordance with the reports of the physicians providing his treatment. Claims to the contrary do not reflect the truth." Later, Tunç said on April 7, "The Forensic Medicine Institute will provide a report after the necessary examination. If the report is approved, a release may be granted." Polat's lawyer, Erkam Erdem, also told Euronews Turkish on the same day, "I see the release as possible and I believe Mr. Mahir will be released." On Tuesday morning, the Forensic Medicine Institute requested additional examinations and analyses. For this reason, Polat was taken from prison to a 'fully equipped' hospital. However, a decision from the Forensic Medicine Institute regarding the matter has not been made today either. After the hospital process, Polat was sent back to prison. Erdem reported that a holter device was placed on Polat to monitor his blood pressure for 24 hours. Additionally, Polat underwent an ultrasound and a heart and anxiety examination. Erdem wrote about the process, "Under these conditions, the file does not seem to be going to the Forensic Medicine Institute for a final evaluation from Başakşehir Çam and Sakura City Hospital until tomorrow."
