House arrest was ordered for Mahir Polat: A call had been made since his arrest on March 23.

Two weeks before his arrest, Polat underwent angiography and has six stents placed in his heart vessels.

Mahir Polat, the Deputy Secretary General of the Istanbul Metropolitan Municipality (IBB), who has multiple illnesses and has been called for his release since his arrest on March 23, has been placed under house arrest. Polat was arrested on March 23 as part of the "city consensus" investigation into the IBB. Polat, who has been suffering from severe hypertension since the age of 21, has been hospitalized twice from prison and underwent angiography during his last hospital transfer. After the angiography, Polat was sent back to Silivri Prison. Two weeks before his arrest, he had also undergone angiography, and he has six stents placed in his heart vessels. His lawyer, Erkam Erdem, stated regarding Mahir Polat's condition, "Hypertension continues, and this hypertension continues to damage his brain, kidneys, and especially his heart, and there is a permanent risk of heart attack and brain hemorrhage." Following the reactions, it was reported that Polat would be transferred to the Forensic Medicine Institution on April 4. On the same day, Polat was taken to the hospital for a transfer report. Justice Minister Yılmaz Tunç also stated: "The mentioned detainee has been transferred to the hospital in the Marmara Penitentiary Campus as of today for the determination of his health condition, and following the examinations conducted here, it has been decided to transfer him to the Forensic Medicine Institution in accordance with the Health Board Decision taken. Throughout all these processes, all the controls of the detainee are being carried out completely in line with the reports of the doctors providing his treatment. Claims to the contrary do not reflect the truth." Later, Tunç said on April 7, "The Forensic Medicine Institution will give a report with the necessary examination. If the report is approved, release may be granted." Polat's lawyer, Erkam Erdem, also told Euronews Turkish on the same day, "I see the release as possible, and I believe that Mr. Mahir will be released." On Tuesday morning, the Forensic Medicine Institution requested additional examinations and tests. For this reason, Polat was taken from prison to a 'fully equipped' hospital. However, the Forensic Medicine Institution did not make a decision regarding the matter. Erdem reported that a Holter device was placed on Polat to monitor his blood pressure for 24 hours. Additionally, Polat underwent an ultrasound, and examinations of his heart and anxiety were conducted. On Wednesday, a house arrest decision was made for Polat. During this process, Polat was repeatedly taken back and forth between the hospital and the prison with his hands handcuffed.
